The Power of Finishing and Refreshing

The Power of Finishing — and Refreshing

A Marathon With Different Finish Lines

Writing a book feels like running a marathon—but no one tells you how different the finish line can feel each time.

When I finished the final draft of my first book, My Invisible Father, in 2021, I was relieved and exhausted. After countless late nights of typing furiously and early mornings eager to get back at it, crossing the finish line felt like my biggest accomplishment ever.

But instead of celebrating, I was too spent to be excited. Too skeptical to be optimistic.

Four Years Later

Fast forward four years, and I’ve just completed the first draft of the sequel, My Invisible Name. Once again, I crossed the finish line worn out—but this time, with hope instead of skepticism. After the long hours of writing, reviewing, and revising, I’m both excited and optimistic.

Back then, I finished empty. This time, I finished full.

Learning From Experience

That first experience taught me to see the bigger picture instead of getting lost in the small details it takes to publish a book. I’ve been through that already. I know what to expect from the process.

Now, I can focus on what matters most: making this story the best it can be.

And so far, I think it is.

More Than Just a Story

What began as a simple idea has grown into a longer, more emotional story than I expected. Each chapter builds on the next, raising the stakes for the characters in ways that surprised even me.

This book became more than a story—it became an experience. I felt the pain and joy of my characters with every page.

With My Invisible Father, I felt their joys. With My Invisible Name, I felt my own.

Despite the long hours, I didn’t feel like I was laboring. And when writer’s block crept in, I took a break, came back refreshed, and kept going.

It was refreshing.

A Lesson Beyond Writing

That lesson carried beyond writing: life itself works the same way.

We push ourselves through hours of work, worry, and effort—sometimes for good, rewarding reasons, sometimes under heavy, difficult circumstances—until we’re completely spent.

And often, all we really need is a break. A few minutes, a few hours, or maybe longer. Enough time to return with new energy and our best selves.

To refresh means to reinvigorate, to give new strength or life. It also means to welcome or stimulate with something new or different.

That’s exactly what this book has done for me.

My Invisible Name has refreshed me—and I hope it does the same for readers. I can’t wait to share it with you soon.

And yes—I’m already looking forward to even more books in the future.
